Taster of Sculpture

Sculpture is my second elective. From starting off with brainstorming, by the end of the day we were to pick two actions that we would like to do. I picked 'to melt' and 'to cut'.

I started off with choosing plastic bottles to melt and join together. I went down to the workshop and used a melting gun and worked under the extractor fan. Here are some images:

Once I had them stuck together, I took some photographs up close. I like the effects.

Next, I took a range of things in to the workshop to melt and see what would happen. This ranged from video tape, to sweet wrappers to clothes hangers.

Here are a few examples of how things turned out:
I actually melted these under the grill at home. They melted quite quickly.
I know this has been done loads of times already, but I really wanted to try it myself. I glued the crayons onto a canvas and used the heat gun.
This is the video tape. I knitted the video tape and melted it. Because of the knitted/weaving form, it didn't really shrivel up. It gave a great effect.
Plastic straws. These held well together.

I loved melting these hangers.

These feathers didn't melt - they just started to burn!
